You know the saying “life imitates art”? Well a couple of weeks ago I went to a paint nite (so fun!) with my mom, aunt and friend and we made these …
It started snowing out while we were painting and snowed pretty much every day since. Life imitating art. So you are welcome friends, you can thank me for the snow! 🙂 But seriously, it was freezing around here the past few weeks. Like 2 degrees colder than the Arctic freaking circle kinda cold! Don’t get me wrong … I love the snow. On Christmas Day. But, once Christmas is over I am ready for the snow to be too! 🙂 Apparently mother nature didn’t get that memo! There is one thing that I absolutely LOVE about the snow though .. I get to pull out ALL the cozy winter layers!
For today’s Friday Favourites, I’m sharing my favourite winter layers, because when it is so cold outside that your eyeballs and nostrils freeze instantly, you can’t think about much other than how to pile on more layers! 🙂 Starting with our toes and working all the way up to our head here we go …
I have had these UGG boots for years and they are still my favourites. I wear lots of booties to work in the winter, but anytime I’m going to be spending more than about 30 seconds outside these babies are on my feet. They are totally waterproof, ultra comfortable and keep my feet SO warm!
I talked about these over in my stocking stuffers guide and Santa listened!! They are everything I’d hoped for and more! I have loved Roots cabin socks for years, and these buffalo plaid ones take things up a notch by being double-layered. When it’s -20 degrees outside you need a double layered sock, and these ones look cute while keeping my toes from falling off … WIN! They also match my favourite winter flannel (also red buffalo plaid), so my weekend uniform lately has been the flannel, black leggings, and these socks. Please ignore the dog hair on my leggings (insert monkey covering eyes emoji here)!
If you could buy stock in cardigans, I’d buy thousands of shares. I’m obsessed. My closet is bursting at the seems from all my cardigans, and I’m not sorry about it! 😛 They are the ideal layering piece, and can be incorporated into your wardrobe far beyond winter by just changing up your layering shirts underneath from long to short sleeve. Some favourites I’m wearing ALL THE TIME recently include :
This black and white cotton and cashmere blend sweater. Aren’t the patches on the pockets cute?! I’ve talked about this sleeveless cape before, but it’s still a total fav (comes in a long sleeve version too). I had a casual NYE at a local pub and wore this with a black long sleeve t-shirt underneath … coziest NYE outfit ever! Then for work I paired it with a blush blouse, my favourite black pants, and a basic black pump.
Every woman should have a peacoat and a winter parka in her closet. With one of each you can get through winter looking stylish, while staying warm. I use my peacoat most days for work, and for dressier occasions, and my parka for pretty much everything else – outdoor activities, running errands, etc.
I told you about this parka on Black Friday, when I got in on a major sale and I am SO happy with it! It comes down to my knees, has a really great hood, and keeps me so WARM. I loved it so much, my mom went and bought one too!
As far as peacoats go I have a few, but this is my absolute fav. It’s a very classic style that is figure flattering on everyone, and the quality is amazing!
Scarves are the easiest way to change up your winter wardrobe because they are pretty inexpensive. The trends of scarves seem to change a bit each year, so I usually pick up a couple of new scarves at the start of the winter season. Toss one on with an old favourite outfit, and it freshens up the whole look. Last year I was all about the blanket scarves, but this year, I have been really loving the infinity scarves. I often keep my scarf on all day long (my office is usually really cold) and the infinity scarf doesn’t get in my way when I’m at the computer or taking notes. This grey knit one is my fav because it goes with everything!
Bundle, stay warm, and have a great weekend!
