Happy Friday! Hasn’t this week flown by!? We had a little costume contest at the office for Halloween and one of the departments transformed their entire corner of the office into a jungle safari. The safari was complete with jungle plants, streamers, a music soundtrack, and a whole host of animal costumes. It was hysterical! There was a leopard, baboon, bear and kangaroo (?! not sure that belongs in the jungle :P), as well as a tourist all decked out for the safari including pants with a built in hula hoop. Oh and did I mention the baboon was outfitted in long underwear with two holes cut out of the bum with blue shorts poking through?! Like I said … hysterical! I spent a good portion of the day laughing and wiping away tears as one co-worker after another paraded past in costume. Such a fun day and totally made it feel like a holiday!
With the rest of the week then flying by, here we are with my Friday Favourites. Let’s jump right in!
Have you ever heard of these before? My aunt introduced me to this wash cloth and it’s literally changed my face! I’ve tried a lot of beauty regimes over the years. Ever heard of no-poo shampoo? Yup. Been there. Don’t try it. Your hair will feel like straw and you’ll smell like vinegar. #sohot The Warsh cloth however, is a definite MUST! You aren’t going to believe me when I say it will remove ALL the make up (water-proof mascara included!) from your face with NO SOAP. I know, you’re skeptical. I was too, but it works! The cloths are made of very fine microfibers that clean your skin without soap. Once you’re done you just wash the cloth in the sink with a little soap, hang to dry, and repeat tomorrow. It’s magic! I have pretty dry skin, and at this time of year it is especially bad, so I am loving my Warsh cloth. Eliminating the soap is doing wonders for my skin!
Hallmark Christmas Movies
Every year, Hallmark starts releasing their new Christmas movies about two months before Christmas. That means the first of this season launched last weekend, and I was ready for it! When I was young my Nanny used to call and remind me when they were on. She’d also call afterwards so we could chat about the movie. She got me hooked, and I’ve been watching them ever since. This year, my mom texted to say that her and my dad were watching and to make sure I hadn’t forgotten. HA! Who was she kidding, my PVR had been set for weeks 😉 It’s no surprise to my family that I love the Hallmark movies, I’ve made everyone watch them for YEARS during the lead up to Christmas, and as much as they give me a hard time they all love them too (even my dad). There’s just something a happy, predictable story with a splash of Christmas cheer to put you in the holiday mood!
Scarves, Scarves & More Scarves
One of my favourite things about fall is layering, and there is no better layer than a scarf. Scarves are an easy way to jazz up an outfit, add some colour, transition cloths from summer to fall, and they are just so cozy! I have a huge scarf selection taking up a good portion of my closet because from fall to spring I wear a scarf EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. This plaid scarf is one of my favourites from last year and it’s back in stock! Here’s another favourite that’s out of stock right now but I’ll post an update if they restock it!Here’s my jean jacket (they’ve changed the wash a little bit) and you can’t really see the leggings but they are perfect for fall (sold out of the burgundy but available in black with I also have and love)!
Long commutes to work in traffic were the worst until I discovered podcasts a while back … it was love at first listen! They make the time pass by SO much faster and I learn lots of fascinating things! I’m currently loving Embedded from NPR, hosted by Kelly McEvers. In season one Kelly ’embedded’ herself into a wide range of situations from policing LA’s skid row to the opioid crisis in rural Indiana to report on the topics from the inside. Now into season two Kelly’s back and digging deep into the past of Donald Trump and those close to him. Living in Toronto, I’m no stranger to controversial politicians #RIPRobFord, but oh my does Trump fuel the media fire! There is certainly no shortage of drama in this season of Embedded!
Blog I’m Loving
100 Days of Real Food. I’ve been following Lisa’s blog for years and love her practical approach to healthy eating. Her recipes are simple, with basic ingredients I usually have on hand, and they taste delicious! Some favourites include the best whole chicken in a crock pot (and the chicken stock recipe that goes along with it), whole wheat tortillas, and quiche. These are staples that I keep going back to over and over again and they never disappoint!
Well, I’m off to a friend’s housewarming/demolition party this weekend. Fingers crossed I get to use a sledgehammer!
